Persons in central department, policy commission and campaign office of Democratic Progressive Party (PPT) successively received emails from counterfeiting colleagues beginning from the middle of June. The attached files used file extension name of word processor software - “doc” for disguising, to relax the watchfulness of receivers. After the files were opened, Trojan programs were embedded to make remote control. Mr. Huang Chung-Yen, the Vice Chief Executive of Policy Commission expressed that hackers almost grasp operations of the headquarters. Who changes to what position, what is extension of telephone number, or related electronic tables, campaign documents were “almost grasped”.
After investigation, computers of Chen Chi-Mai, Hsu Chia-Ching, spokeswoman, and other chiefs of party affairs were intruded by hackers through Trojan programs to steal information in the system. Their personal account numbers and passwords were grasped; even the settings of systems were altered. Received mails were forwarded to the mail box of hackers. The passwords were deciphered by hackers even they were changed several hours before. All kinds of information were disclosed. The hackers had embedded virus by use of other’s name for a period of time. Chen Chi-Mai, the spokesman of PPT, also verified the facts. It is judged that suspicions should be from China.
For the disclosure of confidential campaign information, the telecom engineer of DANET, who has dedicated to information security protection for a long time, revealed that the infection of virus or embedding of Trojan program can be avoided or segregated through mail scanning step filtering attached files embedded with virus if effective anti-virus software is installed. If computers are infected or intruded by hackers unfortunately, we can use dedicated firewall to lock specific IP at the first time and disable external connection, and we can set host as remote connection only and allow connection of specially set allowed IP. Only these steps can immediately terminate remote control of hackers, and disable them to collect any information via network.
