In September of last year, the event of Chinese fishing ship colliding Japanese patrol boat caused the webpage of National Police Agency of Japan to be strongly attacked by hackers, resulting in difficulty of browsing for three successive days. After analysis, Japan found ninety percent of hacker attacks were came from China. The attack of hacker sends tremendous messages from several servers and computers in the way of “DDoS” (also called “flood attack”) to make system paralysis. In addition to National Police Agency, over ten websites of ministries and commissions including Ministry of Defense and Office of Prime Minister were affected.
In February of this year, ANSA of Italy reported that a an anonymous organization left a message on website of Italian government expressing their dissatisfaction with present political and economic situations and said they would start attacks by DDoS. Although paralysis was not caused subsequently, this demonstrates the importance of construction of firewall.
For websites of enterprises, the most terrible thing is intrusions of hackers. However, only having anti-virus software is not enough. If computer paralysis causes full destruction of data, it would be difficult to estimate the loss. Facing attacks from different directions, large enterprises would invest in construction of firewall. However, facing “DDoS” attacks, general firewall might still be attacked by Botnet and Zombies, because general firewall can defend attacks from Europe and America only. However, sixty percent of attacks in Taiwan are from Mainland China. Therefore, better firewalls are required for enterprises to secure the best protection of their information properties.
